BIO
Shaun N. Crisler, Ph.D., SHRM-SCP (He/Him) has dedicated more than 15 years to higher education, student success, and equity-centered leadership. He currently serves as the Associate Provost for Student Development at Le Moyne College, where he provides strategic leadership for a broad portfolio that includes Residence Life and Housing, Student Conduct & Title IX, Global Education, Disability Services, Student Success, Academic Support, Class Deans, Wellness Initiatives, and multiple academic opportunity programs (HEOP, CSTEP, STEP, LPP, Upward Bound, and more). In this role, Shaun focuses on strengthening student belonging, improving retention and persistence, and building structures that support the holistic formation of students in the Jesuit tradition.
Dr. Crisler’s dissertation, The Invisible Tapestry of Whiteness, introduced several groundbreaking conceptual tools, including the Exclusionary Experience Inventory, the Misery Index, and micro-phenomenological case studies, to make whiteness more visible within campus artifacts, learning environments, and student experiences. His research contributes to critical whiteness studies by offering new shared language, coding frameworks, and methodologies for understanding the experiences of BIPOC students at historically white institutions.
A frequent writer and presenter, Dr. Crisler’s work spans professional development, career pathways, intercultural competence, student retention, organizational leadership, assessment, and recruitment and selection in higher education. He has served in numerous leadership roles across the field, including ACUHO-I faculty appointments, national committee work, professional institute facilitation, and leadership with Semester at Sea. In addition to his campus roles, Shaun consults with institutions of higher education, using the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) to support organizational growth in intercultural competence, leadership development, and equity-focused practice.
Dr. Crisler completed his Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Foundations at Illinois State University. He earned an M.Ed. in Adult Education from Northern Illinois University, a Master of Industrial Relations and Human Resources (MIRHR) from The Ohio State University, and a B.S. in Biology from Northern Illinois University. He also holds the Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential.
His career is marked by a commitment to building systems of care, advancing equity, and creating educational environments where students not only persist but grow into the fullest expression of their gifts and potential.
