BIO

Ms. Kovach brings 24 years of experience working to eliminate sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking and human trafficking on college campuses and in the community at-large. Ms. Kovach received both her B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies and M.Ed in Student Affairs/Higher Education from the Pennsylvania State University. Ms. Kovach’s previous roles in direct service provision, government consulting and academia offer a unique blend of skills at the intersection of policy, practice, and advocacy. In prior practitioner and consulting roles, Laura oversaw federally funded domestic violence and sexual assault grants including outreach and education strategies, curriculum development and training and technical assistance. Ms. Kovach spent 10 years as the Director of the Women’s Center at Georgetown University and consulted with campus communities and the federal government about sexual assault prevention programs and gender-based center programming. She served on the Board for Women at NASPA (2009-2013) and published in the Journal About Women in Higher Education about effective sexual assault prevention programs. She is an excellent communicator, strong writer, and trainer and is adjunct faculty teaching on Women’s Studies, Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence at Georgetown University. Laura teaches grant writing skills and spent several years as a grant reviewer for the Office on Violence against Women (OVW) Campus Grant program. Ms. Kovach brings an understanding of federal regulations and policies to support compliance with federal funder requirements including the Family Violence Prevention Services Act (FVPSA) program, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Campus SaVE, Title IX and the American Rescue Plan (ARP). Currently, Ms. Kovach is the Gender Based Violence and Public Health Specialist at the Cloudburst Consulting Group where she provides subject matter expertise for federal, state and local partners addressing various forms of gender based violence and harm. She recently published a blog piece about the impact of the 2022 Reauthorization of VAWA.
